The star of Georgia summers shines against a backdrop of musky bourbon in this delectable cake

Like many during the pandemic, I turned to an all too familiar form of self medication: baking. While I can't take credit for this recipe, I must say I think I did the recipe justice. At least my husband and I thought so.
If you continue reading my blog, you'll pick up on a consistent theme; I love Cumberland Island and the Greyfield Inn and I love the cookbook by the Inn's former chef, Whitney Otawka.
Even if we've moved on to less desperate times, this cook book is still a must read and a must cook. More than a collection of recipes, it's an ode to the barrier islands of Georgia. Otawka, formally a staple in the Athens, GA farm to table scene, weaves recipes into a narrative of seasons and local coastal ingredients. An avid reader, I had never "read" a cookbook until my parent's gifted this to me for Christmas in 2019. The design and photography alone make it a worthy coffee table book but then again you'd be remiss if you didn't keep it close at hand in the kitchen.
